Manatee Info
Since our area is home to the largest concentration of manatees in all of Florida or the world for that matter, we will give you a map pointing to the areas to paddle to see these magnificent creatures. Kayaking with manatees can be an exhilarating experience. Manatees average about 800 - 1200 Lbs with some weighing in at over 3000 lbs. Not to worry about their size though, as they are the most gentle and loving creatures on the planet who will readily approach your kayak. Read some interesting articles about kayaking, manatees and other wildlife, and the Crystal River. In winter there are upwards of 400 manatees (an endangered species) in the Crystal River Kings Bay springs system. Along the way on your adventure you may also see eagles, osprey, dolphins, and in winter some of the largest snook you will ever see. Sorry, no fishing. This area is for manatees only.
Lodging
For Lodging in our area we recommendthe Homosassa Riverside Resort, the most unique of all places to stay in our area of Citrus County. At the Riverside Resort you can have lunch or dinner at the Riverside Crabhouse overlooking Monkey Island (yes there are monkeys on Monkey Island, 5 actually) You can go on a Dinner and a Cruise, swim with manatees, take an airboat ride, rent boats, hire a fishing guide, or go Scalloping (in season July 1st - Sept 10th) You don't have to enjoy great food and fun. You don't have to spend anytime dreaming by the pool. You don't have to be entertained by the antics of the monkeys on Monkey Island or the passing of manatees and dolphins.

Don't know how to kayak?
Okay, back to kayaking. Before we launch your kayak you will be given a short demonstration on adjusting your seat and foot pedals to fit your individual size as well as proper use of your paddle. Personal Flotation Devices that are adjustable to most sizes are provided. You will be given an easy readable map of where to see and find manatees nearest to your entry point. We rent kayaks from 8 AM - 12 Pm / 7 days a week, year around. Kayaks need to be returned by 3 PM. Should you return earlier, there are covered pavilions with picnic tables to rest until your boat tender returns. If you should be in need of a restroom, your on water map will indicate different places on where to go on your short route to see manatees.

Please bring layered clothing and a dry bag to put items you do not want to get wet. Maybe an extra pair of socks in a dry bag for after you return. Your kayak is not going to tip over, but as with any water excursion there is a possibility of moisture.
